I didn't boot up Path of Exile 2: The Last of the Druids expecting miracles, but I did hope the endgame would feel a bit fresher. It doesn't, not really. Vaal Ruins Sounds Better Than It Plays.
The League mechanic, Vaal Ruins, has a cool hook on paper. You roam maps hunting down six Vaal beacons, then you unlock a temple controller where you lay out your own run. It's almost like planning a little heist: pick your path, decide what you're willing to risk, and go. The prosthetic limb swaps are the wild card. Trading body parts for stats is the kind of grim PoE idea that should feel disgusting and awesome at the same time, and early on it actually does. It even pushes you to fully clear areas instead of sprinting past everything, which I didn't expect to enjoy.



The Loot Friction Kills Momentum.
Then the endgame reality hits. Rewards feel thin once you're past the novelty, and the recent change that stops you from dipping out to stash without closing the instance is rough. It sounds like a small rule tweak until you're staring at a floor full of drops and a full inventory. You either leave value behind or you throw away stuff you might regret later. That kind of friction doesn't make the Temple feel dangerous, it just makes it annoying, and it's the sort of thing I really hope Grinding Gear Games smooths out before the holiday lull.



Maps Are Still Maps, and I'm Tapping Out.
Outside the Temple, it's the same map treadmill with a new coat of paint. Packs are smaller but hit harder, and losing the instilling of Emotions on waystones at least means the whole endgame isn't drenched in gloom and fog anymore. Act 3 still overstays its welcome, while Act 4 feels like someone finally remembered pacing matters.
